The many benefits of wearing heel lifts

By now, we’re sure many of you are aware of the long list of benefits associated with wearing our customisable insoles. But did you know that we also stock handy heel lifts, too?

How do heel lifts work?

They might look small and unassuming, but our heel lifts have an important role to play in taking the pressure off your feet.

As the name suggests, they quite literally lift the heel of your foot to reduce the weight placed on your tendons and readdress your gait.

Our heel lifts are not to be confused with our high heel pads, which can be placed underneath your forefoot to reduce the soreness and inflammation that often occurs after you’ve been wearing high shoes for a longer period of time.

Heel lifts are used to rehabilitate your feet after injury, whereas heel pads are better at absorbing shock to prevent problems from occurring in the first place.

When might you need a heel lift?

Heel lifts are incredibly popular amongst customers who suffer with Achilles tendonitis.

This painful condition occurs when the band of tissue at the back of your leg (that connects your calf muscles to your heel bone) becomes damaged from overuse. The tissue becomes irritated and inflamed, leading to an aching sensation that can be accompanied by stiffness and added tenderness in the area.

It’s a kind of injury that’s especially prevalent in runners who have upped their training regimes, and people who only play sports occasionally. Men are more likely to develop the problem, as are people with psoriasis or high blood pressure.

Achilles tendonitis isn’t life-threatening in itself – but if it’s not treated properly, it can lead to severe pain and lack of mobility for the sufferer. Also, if the tendon is left unattended, it will weaken over time and become more susceptible to rupturing; at this point, surgery may be required.

There are plenty of things you can do to relieve the symptoms of Achilles tendonitis, including investing in a sturdy heel lift for your footwear. When placed at the back of the shoe and secured with sticky tape, the lift will help to take the tension away from the heel, giving your tendons the chance to heal while you continue to go about your daily activities.

And because they reduce the amount of force that’s applied from the calf to the foot, our heel lifts can also be used to combat plantar fasciitis. These products are especially effective when they’re used in combination with our customisable inserts; you can learn more about insoles for plantar fasciitis here.

You may also benefit from wearing a heel lift if you’re suffering from heel spurs.
