When bony growths on the bottom of your heels are causing pain and tenderness in your feet, standing and walking can be particularly uncomfortable.
You’ll be relieved to know that there are a number of things you can do to treat the problem – including wearing OrthoSole’s insoles for heel spurs inside your everyday shoes.
Heel spurs form when excess calcium deposits lead to bone-like lumps on the underside of the foot. These protrusions cause a sharp, knife-like pain in the heel first thing in the morning, and a dull ache throughout the rest of the day.
Most of the time, the spur itself won’t cause any pain, inflammation or mobility problems – but the damage it does to the surrounding soft tissues will. This is why sufferers will often experience swelling and hot sensations in the affected area.
Though they can sometimes be up to half an inch long, not all heel spurs are visible to the naked eye; sometimes they will need to be uncovered with an X-ray. If you are getting the symptoms of heel spurs but you can’t physically see them, you have what’s known as ‘heel spur syndrome’.
Heel spurs don’t crop up overnight. They appear when the muscles and ligaments in the feet have been placed under a great deal of strain, or when the membrane that covers the heel bone has been worn away over time. They are also associated with a stretched or torn plantar fascia, and so often occur in people who suffer from plantar fasciitis.
You are more likely to develop heel spurs if you:
As with many foot-related injuries, resting up can work wonders. You can apply ice packs to your heel spurs to help with the swelling, and certain medication will help to keep inflammation down, too. Stretching exercises and ongoing physical therapy can also help in the longer term.
Another option is to try wearing our self-customisable orthotic OrthoSole insoles in your shoes.
Absolutely! Our OrthoSole insoles for heel spurs are specifically designed to provide more robust support to the arches of your feet and the metatarsal bones that keep them structurally sound. Each pair of inserts comes with a selection of metatarsal pieces that can be combined within the insole to accommodate your specific foot and body type, leaving you feeling comfortable and secure in your shoes and reducing your discomfort significantly from the get-go.
For maximum benefit we recommend purchasing our Max Cushion for your Trainers & Work Boots (shoes with that bit of room) and then our Thin Style for your tight fitting / formal shoes. No matter what shoes you wear making sure the support is there!
For maximum comfort, try our insoles for heel spurs with the firmest arch pieces possible.
