Harry Redknapp will be receiving some much-needed support when he enters the I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here jungle this weekend – and not just from his fans!
We’re delighted to reveal that the world-famous football manager will be sporting a pair of customisable OrthoSole insoles during his time in the Australian outback.
Players young and old are particularly susceptible to ankle injuries. It’s so easy to roll your ankle when you’re focusing purely on ball possession. If the ground is uneven, one wrong step could send you off-balance and cause you to place too much body weight on your foot at an awkward angle. Contact from low tackles can also lead to unwanted strain in this area.
The best thing to do to prevent an ankle injury is to strengthen the joints and muscles in your lower limbs. You’ll find plenty of handy exercises online to help you build up resilience; our favourites are calf raises and toe curls because they require no equipment and can be carried out anywhere. We would also recommend investing in custom insoles for your football boots – these will provide improved support to your ankle joint whilst giving you more spring and extra stability while you’re in play. We’d recommend opting for our thin-style insole, which work best in tighter shoes like football boots.
Who IS Harry Redknapp?
Harry’s 50-year footballing career has been nothing short of legendary.
Harry entered the beautiful game as a midfielder with Tottenham Hotspur – the club he would later go on to manage for four years between 2008 and 2012. After playing for nothing short of eight teams, he entered management by taking charge of AFC Bournemouth back in 1983 before taking to the helms of West Ham United, Portsmouth, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Queens Park Rangers and Birmingham before his contract was eventually terminated in September last year.
His son, Jamie, is a football pundit and a former footballer who made his professional debut under his father at AFC Bournemouth in the early 90s.
Why has Harry decided to enter the jungle?
He’s one of the sports industry’s biggest stars, so it’s no wonder fans are excited to see how Harry Redknapp’s time on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here unfolds.
Harry is set to join a plethora of other celebrities, including actor John Barrowman, singer Fleur East and TV presenters Noel Edmonds and Nick Knowles, as they compete for the title of King or Queen of the jungle.
He’s tipped as the bookies’ second favourite to win, but things could have been very different indeed. According to the media, 71-year-old Londoner Harry turned down a stint on Strictly Come Dancing at the last minute, choosing a few weeks in the middle of nowhere over the glitz and glamour of the popular dance contest because he “realised he wasn’t a very good dancer”.
The challenges Harry Redknapp may face in the bush… (and we’re not talking about those infamous Bushtucker Trials!)
As you would expect, decades spent playing, training and pacing up and down the technical area has taken its toll on the former Tottenham boss’s body. Harry was also involved in a serious car crash in Rome in 1990 which left him with multiple injuries, including a fractured skull, a broken nose and several cracked ribs. It’s safe to say he’s been through the wars!
And with this year’s camp is set to be one of the most basic – and demanding – in the history of the series, it’s no wonder that Harry has been seeking ways to make his four-week stint in the jungle more comfortable.
Harry is likely to find the physical demands of the jungle to be especially gruelling given his former knee problems. The sports personality underwent double replacement knee surgery back in 2015 during his stint as manager of Queens Park Rangers – something that’s widely thought to be the main factor behind his decision to leave the club. Standing and walking for long periods of time, coupled with the physicality of some of the trials, will likely serve to aggravate this existing injury.
Thankfully, though, Harry will have his trusty pair of OrthoSole insoles to help prevent unwanted discomfort.
These customisable inserts, which can be slotted into virtually any type of footwear with ease, will undoubtedly help to lessen the impact of the uneven jungle ground on Harry’s joints. The supportive arch and metatarsal pads help to address structural imbalances and absorb shock; they simultaneously work to improve the wearer’s weight distribution and alleviate discomfort in the feet, ankles and lower limbs.
Wearing OrthoSole inserts throughout his experience in the jungle will also prevent Harry’s new and demanding routine from placing excessive stress on his joints and exacerbating his existing conditions. These insoles are particularly effective against the painful symptoms of plantar fasciitis, which occurs when the ligament that stretches from the heel to the front of the foot becomes sore and inflamed as a result of overuse or general wear and tear.
OrthoSole: supporting sports men and women everywhere
Without OrthoSole, many of the industry’s most talented sportspeople – including Harry Redknapp – would still be struggling with the impact that a career of high-intensity activity has had on their muscles and joints.
OrthoSole co-inventor and former professional cricketer Ronnie Irani spent many years searching for a product that would provide effective relief from his own sport-induced ailments. After travelling to Germany to visit a top podiatrist, Ronnie came across an orthotic that appeared to deliver the level of support and comfort he was looking for – but the benefits came at a sky-high price.
After experiencing fantastic results from wearing the inserts on a day to day basis, Ronnie spent some time with the product’s development team. As he learned more about how orthotics work, he got to thinking about ways that such a product could be used universally to help as many people as possible.
By 1993, Ronnie was working with the support of the best biometrics teams in the world to create what we now know as OrthoSole’s affordable, customisable insole. His unique concept has since gained various patents around the world and the company has become associated with heavyweight global distributors.
Harry is, of course, a fierce advocate of OrthoSole – but he isn’t the only high-profile sports celebrity who has spoken of his appreciation for these innovative insoles. Former record goal-scorer Alan Shearer is also a big fan of our brand.
Alan understands the importance of investing in insoles for sports and has previously said that “OrthoSole should be an essential piece of every footballer and referee’s kit” – and we couldn’t agree more!
However, you don’t need to be a world-class athlete like Alan Shearer, or a football mogul like Harry Redknapp, to benefit from OrthoSole. Our insoles can help alleviate all kinds of every day aches and pains, and they are particularly effective in the fight against foot fatigue, overpronation and lower back pain.
I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here begins on ITV at 9pm on Sunday 18th November.
